July 8, CLE: Immigration consequences of a criminal conviction

Members of the Augusta & Harrisonburg-Rockingham Bar Associations,

There will be joint CLE open and free to all members the the two bar associations on July 8, 2016, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Plecker Workforce Pavilion on the campus of Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave, VA.

The CAIR coalition, an organization focusing on immigrants’ rights, will present on the impact of criminal convictions on non-citizens. Their organization offers training and consultation services to criminal defense attorneys representing noncitizen clients in Virginia courts. This is in order to help criminal defense attorneys meet their obligation under Zemene v Clarke to advise noncitizens of the immigration consequences of criminal convictions. (See Zemene v Clarke, 289 Va. 303 (2015).)
