By invitation of Judge Anita Filson, I encourage you all to mark June 12th, 2015 on your calendars.
That’s the day of the Blue Ridge / Shenandoah Area Regional Bench/Bar Conference, a full-day program offered free to lawyers (and judges) in the 16th, 24th, 25th and 26th Circuits. The conference will be held at JMU, in the Festival Conference & Student Center (1301 Carrier Dr., Harrisonburg).
Chief Justice Lemons will attend and participate this year. A portion of this year’s conference will feature a 2-hour CLE (Ethics) addressing “Emergency Planning and Practice Continuity” – a topic meant to be of particular interest to solo and small-firm attorneys. The remainder of the day’s program has not been detailed yet. (I hope to send you an updated announcement when the full agenda is released.)
Regional bench/bar conferences are held annually in different parts of Virginia. Last year’s was in Danville, and the prior year’s in Abingdon. Judge Filson is trying to keep June 12 open for attorneys in her courts, by not scheduling a regular docket on that day. She hopes members of our Bar will take advantage of the opportunity to attend this event.
